In March of 2017, I was diagnosed with cancer, this was the wake up call I needed to start living.
I had been working on Wall Street for almost 20 years, and was depressed and burnt out. My cancer diagnosis, though not deadly, told me that life is short and I needed to follow my dreams and do something I loved. Luckily, my dreams were highly caffeinated. Living in NYC, I always loved walking around trying different cafes, sitting with a hot coffee and watching the world go by. I knew I wanted to be in the coffee business.
In September of 2018, I opened Clipper Coffee on City Island in the Bronx. Initially, I used a high quality third party roaster and began to discover the nuances of different roasts and blends, and the flavors that could be created through the roasting process.
At the time no one was roasting coffee in The Bronx, I made it a mission to seek out the highest quality beans and bring them here.
Beginning in 2022, I procured a Bellwether Coffee Roaster, and set out on building the Bronx Roasting Company.
The Bellwether Roaster is the world’s first all-electric, ventless, zero emissions coffee roasting system. Roasting with a Bellwether, not only allows for us to roast incredible small batch coffee, but also significantly reduces our carbon footprint.
We partnered with friends that own a coffee farm around the small town of Arbelaez Colombia, in the heart of the Coffee Triangle. This allows us to control the growing process, using our biodynamic farms to create fantastic fair trade organic sustainable coffee beans.
